faq :: moving in
When does my lease start?
Depending upon what building you
will be living in, your lease begins on either June1 or July 1
with few exceptions. A copy of your lease was provided to you
when it was signed and Lease Confirmations were sent in February
- both of these indicate the start date of your lease. General
information about your apartment (including the start and ending
dates of your lease) can be found in the Our Properties
section of this site.
What
should I do before coming to Syracuse to move in?
Before you make the trip back to
Syracuse to move into your new apartment, make sure that the following
items are taken care of:
- Turn your utilities on - You should call National Grid 1-800-932-0301
at least 2 weeks in advance of when you plan to move in.
If your apartment has gas heat, be sure to have both electric
and gas service turned on. You will be required to provide us
with your National Grid account number before any keys will be
handed out.
- Activate phone service - Call Verizon well in advance - 890-7100
(local) or 1-315-890-7100 or visit www.verizon.com
- Turn Cable TV/Road Runner on - the local provider for both is
Time Warner Cable 474-4444. There are also a number of satellite
providers in the area or visit www.twcny.com
- Be sure that all rent and deposit payments are made - This applies
not only to you but also to your roommates. As your lease is joint
and several, no one will be given keys until ALL tenants living
in your apartment have made the necessary payments.
- Get Renter's Insurance - Although we are very security conscious
(locked building entry doors, deadbolt locks, security alarms,
etc.), theft is always a possibility even in the best neighborhood.
We recommend obtaining some type of renter's insurance either
as a separate policy or as a rider on your parents' homeowner's
insurance. It may prove to be a very reasonable precaution
How
do I get keys to my new apartment?
You should come directly to the office
when you arrive in Syracuse to move in. If you are coming after
regular office hours or on a weekend, you should call the office
on the prior business day so that arrangements can be made to leave
a key for you.
How
will I know how everything works once I move in?
When you pick up your keys, you will
be provided with a Tenant Handbook which outlines everything you
need to know about where you're going to live. This booklet explains
how to operate the entry locks, how to use your alarm system (if
applicable), where to do your laundry, where to take your trash,
how to take care of things in your apartment, etc. In addition
each apartment will be provided with an apartment condition report,
giving you the opportunity to note any problems that may exist
upon your moving in.
I
am currently living in a Campus Hill apartment and will be moving
to a different apartment. What do I do for the period between my
two leases?
What you need to do depends upon
how much time is between the end of your current lease and the start
of your new one. If there is less than 3 weeks between leases, we
will allow you to stay in your current apartment until any necessary
major work has been completed in your new apartment. We will provide
you with a "transfer date" on which you need to move.
The chart below should help you with your plans but be sure to call
the office to confirm what you need to do.

I am bringing a car to school. What do I need to know about parking?
All of our properties (with few exceptions)
have off-street parking available to our tenants on a first-come,
first-served basis. You will need a 2008-09 parking sticker if
you have a car. If you will be living at 200, 212, 222 Euclid
Ave. or 803, 805 Comstock Ave., you should have completed a parking
lottery form which was sent with the first rent billing. Parking
at these
5 properties is somewhat limited and specific spaces are assigned
based on a lottery conducted in late August. Parking stickers
must be obtained and placed in the lower portion of the passenger
side of your
windshield by 5pm Sept. 3rd, 2008.
